The Prisoner… of AMC

The one and only “The Prisoner” show’s AMC updated, and as advertised, “completely unrelated and remade” (because of the funeral of Patrick mcGoohan?) new version gets its spot in the sun today. Probably following the talk forums and blogs will have interesting discussions, if you can weed out the viral production numbers and the summakor attempt at marketing stuffs or whatev… as mcgoohan said, “We’re run by Madison Avenue, we’re run by television, and as long as we accept those things and don’t revolt we’ll have to go along with the stream to the eventual avalanche… As long as we go out and buy stuff, we’re at their mercy. We’re at the mercy of the advertiser…”

The original has a great intro… it goes like this: “We want… Information… Information… Information!” Claude Shannon would be proud.

Apparently its now all about terrorism. yawn. so old hat. Interestingly enough, or perhaps the exact opposite of interesting, is the lead role being played by Jim Caviezel. I mean, [jesus christ]… What would Patrick McGoohan think? From the wikipediapendiumoftheentirenoosphere:

On October 24, 2006, Caviezel was featured (along with Patricia Heaton, Kurt Warner, and Mike Sweeney) in an advertisement opposing embryonic stem-cell research. Caviezel began the advertisement by saying “Le-bar nash be-neshak”, Aramaic for “You betray the Son of Man with a kiss,” a reference to Judas’s betraying Christ and a phrase used in the Greek version of the Gospel of Luke. The line, however, did not include a translation into English. Caviezel closed the commercial with the line, “You know now. Don’t do it,” referring to the voting in favor of the amendment.
The advertisement was a response to a commercial, featuring Michael J. Fox, in favor of embryonic stem cell research.
Caviezel donated $2,100 in 2006 to the unsuccessful campaign to re-elect US Senator Rick Santorum.[link]

also of “you can play the Jews I can be your Jim Caviezel, S&M, nestlin when we’re wrestlin” fame… [video]

An audio interview of him from some lost source on the webs had him saying something like, “I didnt watch the original because I didnt want to be corrupted by the original” (total paraphrase…). A fundamental misstep i believe. Did it corrupt Ian McKellans ability to play number 2? And, what about

Patrick McGoohan quotes

But what is the greatest evil? If you are going to epitomize evil, what is it? Is it the bomb? The greatest evil that one has to fight constantly, every minute of the day until one dies, is the worse part of oneself. – Patrick McGoohan
