Ray Bradbury on The Internet
“To Hell with the Internet”… Kudos to the Premier of Pedestrian V. Automobile, from a recent nytimes article: [full link]
Fiscal threats to libraries deeply unnerve Mr. Bradbury, who spends as much time as he can talking to children in libraries and encouraging them to read.
The Internet? Don’t get him started. “The Internet is a big distraction,†Mr. Bradbury barked from his perch in his house in Los Angeles, which is stuffed silly with enormous stuffed animals, videos, DVD’s, wooden toys, photographs and books, with things like the National Medal of Arts sort of tossed on a table.
“Yahoo called me eight weeks ago,†he said, voice rising. “They wanted to put a book of mine on Yahoo! You know what I told them? ‘To hell with you. To hell with you and to hell with the Internet.’ â€
“It’s distracting,†he continued. “It’s meaningless, it’s not real. It’s in the air somewhere.â€
A Yahoo spokeswoman said it was impossible to verify Mr. Bradbury’s account without more details.
But how does it fit in with increased library use linked to homelessness? I suppose, at least, you can sleep in libraries. The internets sure dont keep you dry in a monsoon.
interestingly enough, the times also seems to have a curated ray bradbury aggregator page here. Though if its curated by human, or by machine, only the october country knows.
